Programme Highlight
The low carbon pass design for building will cover two topics presented by the guest speakers:
(i) circular building; and
(ii) building envelope & energy efficiency. Below are the highlights:
Part 1 – Circular Building
A “circular building” is a development, use and reuse of buildings, areas, and infrastructure, without avoidable depletion of natural resources, pollution of the environment or negatively impacting ecosystems. It improves our use of materials, energy, waste, biodiversity, health, and society. Circular building design strategies for extended longevity, dematerialsation, repairability, adaptability, and eventually demountability will be outlined in the sharing.
Part 2 – Building Envelope x Energy Efficiency
As reported, there were around 50, 000 buildings in HK, in which 28% were older than 50 years in 2021, and by 2030, the number will be around to 28%. Buildings contribute around 60% total carbon emissions in HK. Hence, the method of retrofitting would help to improve the carbon emission.
Hong Kong Green Building Council had issued a “Retrofitting Guidebook” in early 2023 to gather different ideas for retrofitting specially by air conditioning for people’s review. At the end of this year, the revision version of the guidebook will be launched. HKIA also joined hands with HKGBC and input some passive design ideas and installation application for the building envelope to demonstrate the passive way to help on energy efficiency. This sharing will present on these suggestions for more discussion.
