BS One Day Seminar 2024: “The Endless Journey in Exploring Building Services Development and Sustainability”

BS One Day Seminar 2024 was successfully held on 22 March 2024 at Chiang Chen Theatre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Jointly organized by the BS division of the HKIE and the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, around 90 participants have attended this seminar.  

Ir Keith Yue, Chairman of the BS division, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all guest speakers at the beginning of the session. The morning session was chaired by Ir Marsden Kong, Chairman of the Organising Committee. During this session, Mr Alex Kwan shared the topic regarding the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowered ecosystem in smart facility management and Dr Timothy Chen demonstrated the modelling fire behaviour of mass timber structures; Ir Billy Cheung demonstrated the AI-enabled digital twin for Environment-Social-Governance management and smart facility, where Ir Patrick So shared his insights of harnessing semantic AI for digital building management to enable data-driven building in Hong Kong for the new era. 

The afternoon session was chaired by Dr Anthony Yuen. This session was kicked off by Ir Sidney Au who introduced the new regulatory movements for enhancing building energy efficiency in Hong Kong. Dr Cynthia Hou, afterwards, illustrated how to utilise educational spaces as living labs to harness human-environment interaction data which enhances smart built environment; Ir Felix Chan deliberated the energy management through data-driven approach, where Ir Eric Lau and Ir Seth Yuan discussed the use of computation to enhance Modular Integrated Construction and Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design and construction as the last topic of the seminar.
