The Coronavirus Pneumonia in the Hong Kong is affecting all of us now not only to our health but also our daily life and the livelihood particular for vulnerable communities. In supporting Hong Kong’s anti-pandemic battle, HKIE BSD has on 10 April 2022 donated HKD20,000 to Pei Ho Counterparts, owned by the big-hearted restaurant owner Chan Cheuk-ming aka “Ming Gor” who would further delivery charity meal to vulnerable communities amid the fifth wave of the pandemic. Ming Gor expressed gratitude towards the donation by HKIE BSD and called on the public to support the grassroots as the pandemic situation continues to worsen.
Ming Gor talked to us in his restaurant office about his experience of serving the needy in society. He shared with us how he started to give out free meals to the poor and the homeless in Sham Shui Po when he became aware of their plight. Today, the volunteer team of Pei Ho Counterparts’ led by Ming Gor came from various districts in Hong Kong. They hand out charity meal boxes each year to street sleepers, homeless people with disabilities, elderly persons living alone, ethnic minorities and etc. The team also collect donated items and arrange volunteers and organization familiar with an area to distribute them to those in need, so that people living in all 18 district of Hong Kong can benefit.
From Ming Gor’s example, we were encouraged to be more involved in community service, and look forward to participating in community service projects organized by Ming Gor soon.
Our Chairman, Ir Raymond Tam said: “We want to step up our efforts to help senior citizens and other vulnerable communities to ensure the continuity of their regular needs like food supplies during this critical period of the COVID situation in Hong Kong.”
On behalf of the HKIE BSD and participants, Ir Raymond Tam (Chairman of HKIE BSD) presented the cheque in amount of HKD20,000 to Ming Gor for his volunteer team to delivery charity meal to vulnerable communities.
